You can assess the fit of a suit by checking key areas one by one. By considering the specific occasion, you can quickly determine whether the cut suits your body shape:
Self-Check of Key Areas
Shoulders: The shoulder seam should align perfectly with the edge of your shoulder. It should lie flat without bulging or fabric bunching/pulling. This is the most difficult area to alter and directly determines the overall quality of the fit.
Collar: When standing naturally, the collar should sit close to the back of your neck, maintaining a gap of about 1cm from the shirt collar, without creating a visible gap when you move.
Chest and Waist: When the main button is fastened, there should be about 3cm of ease across the chest-avoiding diagonal pulling or creases-while the waist is naturally defined without looking overly loose or sloppy.
Sleeve Length: With arms hanging naturally, the suit sleeve should reveal 1–2cm of the shirt cuff and just cover the wrist bone, balancing visual layering with practicality.
Jacket Length: The hem should cover two-thirds of the buttocks; when hanging naturally, it should reach the knuckle of the thumb-neither too short (exposing the seat) nor too long (making you look shorter).
Trousers: For formal occasions, the hem should create a slight break (crease) on the shoe; for casual wear, a cropped length revealing the ankle is an option. The seat and crotch area should fit comfortably without feeling tight.
